Behind the scenes of the 24-hour charity stream
How we planned it, what broke at 3AM, and the final total we raised together.
The charity stream started with a spreadsheet, two backup alarms, and the confident belief that somebody would remember to eat. One of those systems worked perfectly.
Before we went live
We split the day into short blocks so there was always a reason to stay for one more hour: community games, guest calls, ridiculous milestones, and a quiet morning segment for anyone watching from another time zone.
Every donation alert was tested twice. We also kept a second scene collection, local copies of the important graphics, and a plain-text version of every link.
3AM happened
The main alert browser source stopped responding just as we hit a milestone. Chat became the alert system while we restarted it, and somehow that improvised version was more exciting than the animation.
By the end, the community had carried the total far beyond the goal. The number mattered, but the part I remember is how quickly everyone turned a broken moment into something joyful.
